Tobacco Road Taking Submissions for Femme Fest on November 6

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Femme FestWe’ll have to wait until 2010 to see if Lilith Fair makes it to these parts, but in the meantime, Tobacco Road is putting out the call for its third annual November celebration of all things XX-chromosomed, Femme Fest.

The Miami venue is currently taking submissions to stack its lineup, so those interested should send a bio, picture, contact, website, and MP3 to deejayoski@yahoo.com. The event is also open to grrrly artists and vendors. Past participants have included Ex Norwegian, the State Of, and Astari Nite, all good choices. In addition, this year I’d like to see Fleez (Elyse Perez is fierce), Daphna Rose, Zombies! Organize!!, Bonnie Riot, among others. Who would you like to see play Femme Fest? Share below.

Tucker’s Vaughters hits Tobacco Road

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Tucker linebacker James Vaughters had what his father considered a productive trip to the Tobacco State this past weekend.

Vaughters, a member of the Class of 2011, visited Wake Forest and North Carolina, and in an e-mail his father said they are “strong competitors to UGA and others for James’ early interest.”

According to his father Jonathan’s e-mail, “Wake Forest was impressive because of their strong academic reputation, the intimacy of their campus due to their relatively small enrollment [4,000 students] and the recent success Aaron Curry had there [drafted 4th in this year's NFL draft]. For what its worth, they mentioned that James might have that level of talent. Their defensive coordinator recruiting James, Brad Lambert, was Aaron’s position coach.”

After meeting privately with North Carolina coach Butch Davis, Vaughters expects to receive a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels as soon as NCAA rules permit. The Vaughterses’ expectation is that Georgia, Florida, Ohio State and Stanford will follow suit and that Notre Dame and USC are expressing strong interest.
